DIXON STUDIO TOUR CODE OF CONDUCT & BYLAWS

BYLAWS OF THE DIXON STUDIO TOUR of THE EMBUDO VALLEY ARTS ASSOCIATION

As amended April 2024

1. The purpose of the annual Dixon Studio Tour is to provide Dixon resident artists and craftspeople with an opportunity to display and sell their work, to further the professional practice of arts and crafts, and to give the public an opportunity to meet the arts and craftspeople in their working environment.

2. A. Artist members of the Studio Tour will be practicing artists and craftspeople who attempt to earn a significant portion of their living through art or craft, and who maintain their principal residence in Dixon, Embudo, Rinconada, Cañoncito, Apodaca or Cuestacitas, and who have their full-time working studios within these communities.

B. Gallery members of the Studio Tour will be establishments with regular hours of operation and signage in one of the above communities where handmade art and crafts by multiple artists normally represented throughout the year are sold.

C. Business members of the Studio Tour will be establishments with a building or site where commercial activity other than selling handmade art is carried on in one of the above communities on a regular basis throughout the year.

3. Artists must have lived and run their studios in the community for at least one year before the tour. Artists shall be registered voters of New Mexico, have a valid New Mexico Driver’s license, file New Mexico Tax Returns and have a primary residence in Dixon, Embudo or Rinconada, Cañoncito, Apodaca or Cuestacitas. Businesses and galleries will be allowed on the tour if the owners have lived in the community for at least one year prior to the tour.

4. Fees will be determined yearly at the annual meeting.

5. Members must display only their own handmade original work, with the exception of reproductions of their original work, such as cards, prints, etc.

6. Each artist member, business member, and gallery member is required to sign up for and perform a tour-related job.

7. Members will be expected to be present at their home or studio for the entire time of the tour hours, to provide complimentary refreshments to visitors, and to offer a hospitable environment. Offering food in exchange for money without a license is prohibited by the tour and regulated by New Mexico statutes. All food vendors must follow the separate food vendor application process.

8. Membership will continue as long as a person has been on the tour in the last two years and is a member in good standing. If absent longer than two years, a person must re-apply for membership. Only current tour members in good standing as decided by the majority of tour members at the spring meeting are eligible to vote.

9. Each year the art or craft should be of the same quality as that originally juried into the tour.

10. New applicants will participate in an orientation meeting, to present samples of their work to the Steering Committee. The orientation meeting will be scheduled before the annual membership meeting in the spring. The applicants will be given copies of the bylaws and will show proof of residency.

11. Anyone wishing to show and sell their products (art, craft, food items, etc.) in the Markets (Dixon Elementary PTO, Presbyterian Mission Building) must also be a Dixon resident in one of the communities listed in Bylaw 2.

12. Any tour member who is in good standing with the tour and agrees to follow SC guidelines may serve on the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee makes decisions to best direct tour activities.

13. The Steering Committee, as a group, shall oversee the budget and make decisions regarding how Dixon Studio Tour funds are used. The budget for each year shall be a guideline based directly on the previous year’s expenses adjusted for inflation. Following approval of this budget by the Steering Committee, any additional or uncustomary expense shall require approval by majority vote of the Steering Committee before the expenditure is made.

14. These bylaws may be amended at the annual meeting by a majority vote of the membership present at the meeting. All other matters pertaining to the Studio Tour shall be at the discretion of the Steering Committee.

15. Failure to respect these bylaws will constitute grounds for loss of membership for the following year’s Studio Tour.

16. By participating in the Tour, members agree to abide by the Dixon Studio Tour Code of Conduct.

Dixon Studio Tour Code of Conduct for All Members:

Be patient and courteous.

Be inclusive. We welcome and support people of all backgrounds and identities. This includes, but is not limited to members of any sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, social and economic class, educational level, color, immigration status, sex, age, size, family status, political belief, religion, and mental and physical ability.

Be considerate. We all depend on each other to do the best work we can as an organization of volunteers. Your decisions will affect colleagues, clients, and community, and you should take those consequences into account when making decisions.

Be respectful. We won't all agree all the time, but disagreement is no excuse for disrespectful behavior. We will all experience frustration from time to time, but we cannot allow that frustration to become personal attacks. An environment where people feel uncomfortable or threatened is not a productive or creative one.

Refrain from conduct, including any unlawful activity, detrimental to the integrity, reputation, and public confidence of the DST, not only in face-to-face interactions, but also in any social media platform or other public forum. Harassment, defamation, slander of the DST or its members will not be tolerated. Exclusionary behavior is not acceptable. This includes, but is not limited to: - Threats of violence - Discriminatory jokes and language - Personal insults. - Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.

Do not harass others. When we disagree, try to understand why. What is important is that we resolve disagreements and differing views constructively. We find strength in diversity and focus on resolving issues and learning from mistakes.

Be professional. Member business will be conducted through the proper channels as follows. Criticism and grievances will be respectfully expressed to the appropriate parties. The membership is welcome to critique the DST during an allotted time at the annual meeting or post-tour meeting during the time of either “Old business" or "New business“. Regular business matters can generally be addressed to the Steering Committee in regularly scheduled meetings.

Any member found by a majority vote of the Steering Committee in violation of the Code of Conduct shall be put on probation or removed from the DST immediately without a refund of fees and will no longer be considered a 'member in good standing'. The membership will vote to decide the length and terms of their removal from the DST during the annual meeting.
